Tuesday, November 3, is election day! It's a perfect opportunity for 8th graders to raise money for their D.C trips while learning about civic engagement firsthand, and it's a great time for families to self-fundraise (or raise for the group pool with givebutter.
A QUICK HOW-TO GUIDE ON HOW TO HOST:
Find your nearest polling place (Oak Park elementary schools and public libraries are polling sites, among others)
Bring a small table, chairs, a sign and snacks to sell on the parkway.
Bring some small bills for change in a box (shoeboxes are great!), and have QR codes ready for a personal Zelle or Venmo for digital sales. A printed sign makes it easy.
Choose reasonable sale prices - maybe $1-$2 per item
Say hello to your neighbors!
Remember to dress for the weather, and note that mornings and evenings around commute hours will likely be the best times to sell.
Make it easy!
If you love to bake, brownies or cookies packed in sandwich bags are simple options.
If you hate to bake, individually wrapped snacks bought in bulk packaging work really well. Try chips, cookies, juice boxes, and/or water bottles.
